This illustrated postcard was created as a letter for my friends from حَلَبْ Aleppo, Syria. The piece features a hand-drawn portrait of my friend riding his bike through the snowy streets of Sweden, which is where he lives now. The handwritten message was composed in Syrian Arabic with the guidance of my language teacher, Rami, who lives in إِدْلِب Idlib, Syria. This page also includes a video ↓ where I attempt to read the letter aloud, doing my best to practice Arabic as a beginner.

Cartoon illustration of a man in winter clothing riding a bicycle on snow, with a large moon in the nighttime sky.
A handwritten letter in Arabic on a beige paper, taped with white tape on top left and bottom right corners, with a gray background.
A collage of images including a woman on a video call, a coffee cup, a flower, a tree with pink flowers, and a book about learning Arabic script, with the title 'Attempting to Read Arabic' in the background.
